Hardcover. Etat : Fair. Publisher's original green cloth with spine and front panel lettering gilt and a large oval color illustration ruled in blind, octavo, pp. 128. Tissue-guarded color frontispiece and four additional full page color illustrations, as called for. Pages decorated with floral borders. Previous owner brief gift… inscription on front endpaper. Front hinge starting but holding firm. Bottom front board tip rubbed through and a bit frayed. Old red dot on bottom edge near spine. Front panel fore-edge protrudes slightly farther than rear panel fore-edge, as in an overbite. Condition is about Good, despite this litany of faults.

First edition (not stated). 128 pages. Hardcover: H 20cm x L 14cm. No dust jacket present. Green cloth rubbed; front board decorated with soiled oval paste-on color image by Ailleen Phillips; light wear at spine ends; board corners bumped; strong staining to rear board; gilt lettering upon spine and front board quite legible but… no longer particularly bright. Front and rear yellow pastedowns with opposing free endpapers well browned. Several binding splits are evident between four or so of the book's quires but none are tenuous. Juvenile fictional literature telling the story of little Mary-Gold Eager by David Patrick MacMillan. Features floral border page decorations and five color plates (including frontispiece with tissue guard) plus aforementioned front board pastedown all illustrated by Ailleen Phillips, later Ailleen Phillips Shannon (1888-1964), who was born in Gillsburg, Mississippi and studied under with William Merritt Chase. She is best known for her New Mexico landscape paintings. A good copy of a scarce Mississippi-published children's story.
