Etat : New. Idioma/Language: Español. Ogam es un ingenioso sistema de escritura que consiste únicamente en trazos y muescas dispuestos a lo largo de un tallo. Como sistema gráfico, es uno de los más abstractos y no icónicos jamás concebidos para la comunicación humana. Las letras consisten en haces de uno a cinco trazos rectos p…aralelos idénticos, dispuestos en cuatro clases o grupos. El ogam se encuentra sobre todo en la superficie de objetos, normalmente piedras. En la actualidad existen algo menos de 500 piedras ogam, principalmente en Irlanda, pero también en Gales, Escocia, Inglaterra y la Isla de Man. A ellas hay que añadir unas dos docenas de objetos portátiles. Inventado tal vez en el siglo IV para escribir la lengua irlandesa primitiva, los siglos V-VII se consideran el periodo clásico de la escritura ogam. Sin embargo, el conocimiento del ogam nunca se perdió y la tradición de su uso continúa hasta nuestros días. En la Alta Edad Media, incluso se adoptó ocasionalmente en la escritura manuscrita. El presente volumen de la serie AELAW ofrece una introducción a lo que se sabe de este sistema de escritura y a cómo interpretar las inscripciones en ogam. Un censo de las inscripciones conocidas en la actualidad y una bibliografía concisa completan el volumen. In the first millennium B.C., two Ancient Celtic languages were spoken in what is today northern Italy and southern Switzerland, along the northern part of the river Po, and in the valleys around the big lakes on the southern slopes of the Alps. These languages, Lepontic and Gaulish, are grouped together as Cisalpi…ne Celtic, i.e. æCeltic on this side of the AlpsÆ, viewed from the perspective of the ancient Romans, in contrast to the Transalpine Gaulish language on the far side of the Alps in modern France. Known from over 400 inscriptions that span around 600 years, the two languages share the same writing system, borrowed from the Etruscans to the south. This volume of the AELAW series offers an introduction to what is known about the grammar and the lexicon of these languages, how to read the script and how to interpret the the various types of inscriptions (graffiti on pottery, tombstones, dedicatory formulae). This is accompanied by over forty new images and drawings of the inscribed objects. A census of the inscriptions known today and a concise bibliography round off the volume. The book contains 2 ma.
