Ajouter au panierPaperback. Etat : New. Built in 1912, Detroit's Tiger Stadium provided unmatched access for generations of baseball fans. Based on a classic grandstand design, its development through the 20th century reflected the booming industrial city around it. Emphasizing utility over adornment and offering more fans affordable seats near the field than any other venue in sports, it was in every sense a working-class ballpark that made the game the central focus. Drawing on the perspectives of historians, architects, fans and players, the authors describe how Tiger Stadium grew and adapted and then, despite the efforts of fans, was abandoned and destroyed. It is a story of corporate welfare, politics and indifference to history pitted against an enduring love of place. Chronological diagrams illustrate the evolution of the playing field.

A series of insightful lectures on Lowth's analysis of the rhythmic structures seen in the Sacred Poetry of the Hebrews, in full prize calf. De Sacra Poesie Hebraeorum Praelectiones Academicae Oxonii Habitae (On the Sacred Poetry of the Hebrews, Lectures Given at the Oxford University), written by Professor of Poetry Robert Lowth, with a Short Refutation of the Harian Metric and Crew's Prayer with the Knowledge of John Davids Michael, edited by Car. Rosenmuller. In full prize calf, with a frontispiece engraved by James Fittler, the appointed marine engraver of George III. An intriguing series of lectures inspired by Lowth's doctoral thesis of 1754, published in Latin and citing Hebrew scriptural passages. Lowth was among the first scholars to observe the rhythmic structures within the psalms and prophetic literature of the Old Testament. In full prize calf. Externally, smart, with the odd small mark and minor fading to the spine. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Minor rubbing to joints. Marble end papers are bright and clean, with slight browning to prize bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with a couple of faint spots to frontispiece extremities and first couple and final leaves. Very Good. book.
