TABLEAU ABRÉGÉ DES PRINCIPAUX DEVOIRS D'UN PRÊTRE, EN FORME DE RÈGLEMENT ET D'EXAMEN, SUIVI DE QUELQUES PRIÈRES À L'USAGE DES ECCLÉSIASTIQUES. Lyon: Pélagaud, Lesne et Crozet, 1836. Eighth Edition, revised by the author. French text. Approximately 240 numbered pages, plus preliminary matter. An attractive nineteenth-century French Catholic religious handbook outlining the principal duties, spiritual obligations, and moral responsibilities of the priesthood. Organized as a practical guide for religious discipline and personal examination, the work also includes devotional prayers intended for ecclesiastical use. The publisher's introductory remarks trace the original work to 1814, when it was prepared for priests participating in pastoral retreats at the seminary of Viviers. Bound in handsome period full leather with decorative gilt-tooled spine, ornamental compartments, and a red leather title label. The binding retains an attractive mottled patina characteristic of early nineteenth-century leatherwork. CONDITION: Good antique condition. Sturdy, secure binding. Leather boards exhibit natural aging, moderate surface rubbing, and wear to edges and corners. Decorative gilt tooling remains visible along the spine. Interior pages show scattered foxing and age-related toning but remain generally clean and legible. Front endpapers exhibit typical age-related discoloration. No ownership inscriptions or bookplates observed on the photographed front endpapers. An appealing example of early nineteenth-century French Catholic devotional literature, retaining considerable historical character and attractive period binding. — BR. …
