Durch Vermittlung seines Onkels Ludwig Devrient debütierte er 1819 als Rudenz im "Wilhelm Tell" am Nationaltheater Braunschweig, wurde 1821 als erster Liebhaber an das Hoftheater Dresden engagiert und heiratete 1823 Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient. Seit 1828 geschieden, verließ er nach familiären Konflikten Dresden, unternahm eine längere Studienreise und trat 1835 ein Engagement in Karlsruhe an. …
