M. in Wien einzutreffen denke. Wenn es also Ew. Wohlgebohren gefällig wäre, mir dorthin unter der Adresse des Herrn Hofschauspieler Anschütz Ihre Entschließung mitzutheilen, so werde ich, falls dieselbe meiner Bitte die sehr gewünschte Gewährung verheißt, jede Stunde bereit sein nach Grätz abzureisen, wo ich hoffe, Ihrer gegenwärtigen Entfernung ungeachtet, persönlich die Hochachtung zu bezeigen, mit welcher ich jetzt Ihrer geneigten Antwort entgegensehend in aufrichtiger Ergebenheit verharre []". - Gefaltet. - Karl August Devrient wurde zum Kaufmann bestimmt, erhielt in Berlin seine Ausbildung und übernahm 1817 die kaufmännische Leitung einer chemischen Firma in Zwickau. Durch Vermittlung seines Onkels Ludwig Devrient debütierte er 1819 als Rudenz im "Wilhelm Tell" am Nationaltheater Braunschweig, wurde 1821 als erster Liebhaber an das Hoftheater Dresden engagiert und heiratete 1823 Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient. Seit 1828 geschieden, verließ er nach familiären Konflikten Dresden, unternahm eine längere Studienreise und trat 1835 ein Engagement in Karlsruhe an.

Devrient Carl August, eigentlich Carl De Vrient, auch Karl Devrient (*1797 Berlin - 1872 Lauterberg im Harz). Deutscher Theaterschauspieler, Freimaurer. Erstes Engagement in Braunschweig, später Dresden, Paris und Karlsruhe. 1823 Heirat mit der achtzehnjährigen Opernsängerin Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient. Ab 1839 Engagement am Hoftheater in Hannover für 33 Jahre als "Heldendarsteller". 1855 zweite Ehe mit der Sängerin und Schauspielerin Johanna Block.
