As distinguished a jurist as Coke and Bacon, Sir John Doderidge [1555-1628] was a counselor of the King's Bench, a Serjeant for Prince Henry, solicitor-general and a member of Parliament. He was the author of five important works that were all published posthumously. His work is held in high esteem by Holdsworth. The History was written during the early part of the reign of James I to urge the revival of Wales as a principality. After a period of decline, the principality was abolished by Parliament in 1641. (It was revived during the Restoration before being finally abolished in 1689.)
