Soft cover. Etat : Good. First Edition. An Original Autograph written letter signed by the English dramatist, writer and wit, Douglas Jerrold (1803-1857). C1845. He was a contemporary and friend of Charles Dickens who honoured him on his death by being one of the pallbearers at his funeral and giving public readings to raise money for his widow. Jerrold writes an undated letter to the poet and novelist, Henrietta Tindal (Mrs Acton Tindal): Dear Madam, I was very sorry but, being urgently called from home, I did not receive your letter until the mischief was in type - I should say, printed. I send you the "result" of "Women's Wit" and am, Yours faithfully, Douglas Jerrold I trust that our friend Lord Nugent has discussed with you the matter poetical - with reference to yourself - which he and I at our last meeting spoke of. This letter probably refers to an article in Douglas Jerrold's Weekly Newspaper or his Shilling Magazine, which means it dates from between the mid-1840s to 1850 (Lord Nugent's death). It's in tiny writing on a small piece of plain notepaper, measuring 4½" x 3½" and has a fold and light creasing. The front of the original envelope is included. Condition is quite good with light repair to centre rear. More images can be taken upon request. Ref17645.
