The author, Warren Dutton (1774-1857), was a lawyer from Connecticut who also served in the state legislature. This poem was his Master's oration at his commencement from Yale. In his Biograph…ical Sketches of the Graduates of Yale College (1911), Franklin Bowditch Dexter describes Dutton's poem as "Unusually sprightly and clever" with a passage "given to the ridicule of Abraham Bishop's Oration on political delusion." In Very Good Condition: disbound; light foxing throughout; pages are otherwise clean and solid.

After his death the library was donated to the Brown University Library.Bookplate of Henry B. Anthony to the rear paste down. Anthony was a newspaperman and political figure of the United States, who was elected to the Senate by the Rhode Island Legislature five times. In a half straight grain morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed. Bookplate and labels to the paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned and clean, with a couple of scattered spots. Very Good. None (illustrateur). book.
