Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good-. First Edition (?). Hardcover is black with gold lettering on front and spine. Greyish/mauve endpapers. Pages are clean and tight; printed on glossy paper. Lusly illustrated with 288 photographs, most in b/w, a 38 in color. My all time favorites are pages 273-277; showing the 1968 and 1984 Tigers playing in, and winning, the World Series, and a 6 photo section of a foal racing off to nurse and nap. "Chief photographer of the Detroit Free Press since 1952 and special assistant to the managing editor since 1986, Tony Spina is one of America's most distinguished journalists. More than 450 national and international honors and awards have recognized his stunning pictures. His memorable photographs of the Detroit riots helped the Free Press win the Pulitzer Prize in 1968. A Detroiter, bred and born, and has had a magnificent career with the Detroit Free Press. I've been lucky enough to grow up seeing his pictures on an almost daily basis. As Pres. John F. Kennedy said: "I just want you to know how much I appreciate your photography". A marvelous book, incomparable photographs spanning decades and every aspect of life, a true Detroit legend. The intro is by Neil Shine, still a writer at the Detroit Free Press. Very oversized, 5#. ; Photographs; 9 1/2 x 12 1/2; 278 pages; Book has very minor shelf wear. DJ has rubbing/scuffing, shelf wear, some chips, nicks, creases along the edges; 3" x 2" section at bottom of front, closed tear taped together; bottom half of front has creasing. But DJ is entire and in a mylar cover.
