'A journal written during a voyage from England to Newfoundland and from Newfoundland to England in the years 1794 and 1795, addressed to a friend'. the diarist was employed on H.M.S. Boston as an able seaman. However, he may have been the captain's steward. He was obviously better educated than the average British seaman. His diary is replete with comments that show ".insatiable curiosity, wit, boundless good humour, and a well-furnished mind." (jacket blurb). A very good copy. There is a short gift inscription on the front, blank endpaper. The jacket has been price-clipped, and has a noticeably faded spine. Elsewhere, there is light soiling. The jacket is protected with a Brodart cover.
