Wohlgeboren statte ich hierdurch den verbindlichsten Dank ab sowohl für Ihre freundliche Zuschrift als für gütige Zusendung des Blatts Ihrer LZ. worin sich die Recension meines Geistes der Bibel befinde…t. Ist nun letztere gleich nicht so ganz günstig ausgefallen, als mehrere andere in ähnlichen Instituten, so habe ich doch Ursache, im Ganzen damit wohl zufrieden und dem Herrn Recensenten [.] dafür dankbar zu seyn. Nur über die Anschuldigung vieler fehlen sollenden Bibelstellen muß ich mir ein bescheidenes und freundliches Gegenwort erlauben [.]". - Engels "Der Geist der Bibel für Schule und Haus" erschien erstmals 1824 in Plauen und wurde zu seinen Lebzeiten in zwölf Auflagen gedruckt (insgesamt 15 Auflagen bis 1846). Aufgrund großer Anerkennung und guter Kritiken durch Geistliche und Pädagogen wurde es in Schulen als Lehrmaterial eingesetzt. Den finanziellen Gewinn wollte Engel für seine "Dankbarkeitsstiftung" nutzen, die zwar gegründet wurde, jedoch wegen zu geringen Stammkapitals scheiterte. - Leicht gebräunt, tinten- und braunfleckig (durch Siegeldurchschlag). Mit Empfängervermerk in Tinte und Sammlervermerk in Bleistift.
