From back cover section, "As another Charlestonian, J. Douglas Donehue, describes it, 'Sensitivity to the feelings of his fellow human beings is the hallmark of Eugene Platt's writing'. On a universal level, this is seen in his poem 'Preservation Society', a poignant reminder of the Holocaust and of slavery in the antebellum South. On a personal level, it is seen in 'My Solemn Vow', addressed to a cherished wife after she has been diagnosed with breast cancer." You may already be quite familiar, Reader, with the poetry of Eugene Platt, or he may, in fact, be a fresh, new voice not yet heard and appreciated. This is a collection of some 130 poems, and was his first collection to be published since South Carolina State Line in 1980. Among the poems presented are "Melontime", "Edisto Hours", "To a Red-Haired Exorcist", "Two Years At Kitty Hawk", "Rhythm Method", "Boxing Day on Tobago", "The Greatest Man", "War Games", "Sometimes Boys Can See Further", "Carolina Catechism", "Praise God for Grits", and, of course, "Summer Days with Daughter".
