Each work is the first edition and bound in the publisher's original cloth. The Pembrokeshire edition is thoroughly annotated in a contemporary script, including to the front endpapers. The Radnorshire edition contains two curious items tipped in, the first being a 1908 Llandrindod leaflet raising money for the "Bowen-Davies Memorial Aisle" and the second being a very scarce copy of T. E. Morris' article "Capel Maelog, Llandrindod" for the Cambrian Archaeological Association, signed by the author and also featuring a double-sided letter from the the Cambrian Archaeological Association's editor, Rev. Canon Fisher. Extensively illustrated. Pembrokeshire, Gowerland and Oxfordshire each contain a frontispiece. Pembrokeshire contains ten further plates; Gowerland contains thirty-nine further pages of plates; and Oxfordshire contains thirty further pages of plates. Carmarthenshire contains fourteen plates; Radnorshire contains six plates; Breconshire contains fifteen plates; and Cardiganshire contains twenty plates. Collated, complete. This exciting collection offers a contemporary glimpse into the wide variety of church plate held in counties across England and Wales. Compiled by the Reverend John Thomas Evans, who served as rector of Stow-on-the-Wold between 1899 and 1935. An avid antiquarian, Evans published several works on church history, Gloucestershire and his birth county of Pembrokeshire. Each work is bound in the publisher's original cloth. Oxfordshire and Carmarthenshire contain signatures of previous owners to the front free endpapers. The Pembrokeshire edition is thoroughly annotated in a contemporary script, including to the front endpapers. The Radnorshire edition contains two curious items tipped in, the first being a 1908 Llandrindod leaflet raising money for the "Bowen-Davies Memorial Aisle" (page 16) and the second being a very scarce copy of T. E. Morris' article "Capel Maelog, Llandrindod" for the Cambrian Archaeological Association, signed by the author and also featuring a double-sided letter from the the Cambrian Archaeological Association's editor, Rev. Canon Fisher (page 56). Externally, smart with slight bumping and rubbing, more notable fading along the spines, also to the front board of Breconshire. Boards generally also feature a few marks. Internally, generally firmly bound, front hinges tending to be a little weak. Reasonably bright and clean with sporadic spotting throughout, heavier to the first and last few pages. Very Good.
