Bound in the original blue boards, stamped in shiny gold. From the dust jacket: "Baskerville was concerned with everything to do with the art and craft of printing, from the design of type to the improvement of the print and paper technology of his day. It is F.E. Pardoe's contention that it is high time that Baskerville was recognized as the greatest printer Britain has ever produced, a man who practised his trade with inventiveness and an appealingly non-commercial sense of perfectionism. This book should become the standard text on John Baskerville, the result of patient research and inspired academicity. For, as well as his educated appraisal of the works of Baskerville that have survived, F.E. Pardoe has succeeded admirably in giving a portrait of Baskerville the man, as well as Baskerville the printer. If Baskerville is Britain's greatest printer, then, as James Moran puts it in his Foreword, F.E. Pardoe himself has written the greatest book on this extraordinary man. Frederick Muller Ltd could do no better than to echo Mr. Moran's later comment: 'I consider it an honour to have been associated with this work.'". First Edition. Hardcover. New/New. xvi, 181pp. …
