Very scarce, especially in US. Octavo. Bound in white vellum over green marbled paper covered boards with red leather title label and gilt title to spin…e. Decorative gilt device and rules to spine. Front and back boards are heavily rubbed with wear to edges and corners. Corners are bumped. Darkening and minor spotting to vellum, as is common. Interior has a few spots of foxing throughout. Creases to corners of a few pages. Handwritten note on inside front cover and to a few margins. Occasional pencil underlinings. Mispaginated / misprinted at page 207 and following; however, does not appear to be missing pages; numbered to 498 pages, including index. ITALANG/082522.

Erste Ausgabe der ersten Übersetzung ins Französische! - Das Pandektenlehrbuch von Mackeldey erschien erstmals im Jahre 1814 unter dem Titel: Lehrbuch der Institutionen des heuti…gen Römischen Rechts. Schließlich erschien es in der zweiten Auflage unter dem neuen Titel: Lehrbuch des heutigen Römischen Rechts. Die dritte Auflage erschien 1820. Ab der vierten Auflage 1822 war das Werk in zwei Bände unterteilt. Auch in der fünften (1823) und sechsten (1825) Auflage wurde das Lehrbuch jeweils verbessert und vermehrt. Bereits in der dritten Auflage kündigte Mackeldey eine völlige Umarbeitung des Lehrbuches an. Aber die Auflagen waren so schnell vergriffen und die Auflagen zur vierten, fünften und sechsten Auflage wurden in solch schnellem Zeittakt gedruckt, daß Mackeldey allein die neueste Literatur einarbeitete, die Ordnung aber beibehielt. Die Stellung der einzelnen Lehren wie auch die Zahl und Folge der Paragraphen von der zweiten bis zur sechsten Auflagen blieben daher unverändert. Die siebente Auflage kündigte sich bereits im Titel als sehr veränderte und verbesserte Ausgabe an. Mackeldey richtete die Veränderungen auf drei Ziele: 1. die Abänderung des bisher befolgten Systems; 2. historische Einleitungen sollen den dogmatischen Darstellungen vorangestellt werden; 3. Abdruck der wichtigsten und schwierigsten Beweisstellen. Die vorliegende erste französische Ausgabe folgte der deutschen 10. Ausgabe.
