Il Farinacci (Roma, 1544-ivi, 1618), illustre penalista, fu Consigliere della Sacra Consulta su nomina di Clemente VIII e Procuratore Generale Fiscale della Camera Apostolica su designazione di Paolo V e giudice inflessibile, noto per la facilità con cui comminava condanne a morte. Noto per aver difeso Beatrice Cenci nel suo famosissimo processo (un altro famigerato processo coninvolse poi lo stesso Farinacci, con l'accusa di sodomia, poi caduta nel nulla solo per la grazia accordatagli da Clemente VIII), i suoi trattati giuridici (primo tra tutti la Praxis et theorica criminalis) condensarono brillantemente le codificazioni del diritto penale sino ad allora elaborate in occidente, facendo scuola per molti decenni, anche se gli studiosi moderni hanno ridimensionato il suo apporto alla storia della giurisprudenza (Franco Cordero lo ha definito mago dello scibile penalistico confusamente blaterante; cfr. Criminalia. Nascita dei sistemi penali, Roma-Bari, Laterza, 1985). Cfr. (con bibliografia) Aldo Mazzacane in Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani, volume 45, 1995: Il Farinacci ebbe fama grandissima fra i contemporanei e i giuristi del tardo diritto comune e del primo ottocento, che tuttavia non mancarono di registrarne la propensione per il malaffare. Oggetto invece di aspre censure da parte degli illuministi, quale rappresentante tipico di un sistema penale da rifiutare, ha trovato nella storiografia moderna giudizi egualmente divisi tra il moderato apprezzamento e la severa condanna. Impegnato nel difficile compito di ridurre a scienza il diritto penale, secondo il Fiorelli, dalle tinte manzoniane con le quali Franco Cordero ha dipinto la penalistica di ancien régime egli appare, al contrario, con le sue nequizie morali e intellettuali, come un esempio di quelle lingue vendute che popolano il circo penalistico del Seicento. Seconda edizione giuntina, esemplata sulla precedente del 1618, della prima parte della scelta e del commento del Farinacci alle decisioni della Sacra Romana Rota. Il Farinacci (Roma, 1544-ivi, 1618), illustre penalista, fu Consigliere della Sacra Consulta su nomina di Clemente VIII e Procuratore Generale Fiscale della Camera Apostolica su designazione di Paolo V e giudice inflessibile, noto per la facilità con cui comminava condanne a morte. Noto per aver difeso Beatrice Cenci nel suo famosissimo processo (un altro famigerato processo coninvolse poi lo stesso Farinacci, con l'accusa di sodomia, poi caduta nel nulla solo per la grazia accordatagli da Clemente VIII), i suoi trattati giuridici (primo tra tutti la Praxis et theorica criminalis) condensarono brillantemente le codificazioni del diritto penale sino ad allora elaborate in occidente, facendo scuola per molti decenni, anche se gli studiosi moderni hanno ridimensionato il suo apporto alla storia della giurisprudenza (Franco Cordero lo ha definito mago dello scibile penalistico confusamente blaterante; cfr. (con bibliografia) Aldo Mazzacane in Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani, volume 45, 1995: Il Farinacci ebbe fama grandissima fra i contemporanei e i giuristi del tardo diritto comune e del primo ottocento, che tuttavia non mancarono di registrarne la propensione per il malaffare. Oggetto invece di aspre censure da parte degli illuministi, quale rappresentante tipico di un sistema penale da rifiutare, ha trovato nella storiografia moderna giudizi egualmente divisi tra il moderato apprezzamento e la severa condanna. Impegnato nel difficile compito di ridurre a scienza il diritto penale, secondo il Fiorelli, dalle tinte manzoniane con le quali Franco Cordero ha dipinto la penalistica di ancien régime egli appare, al contrario, con le sue nequizie morali e intellettuali, come un esempio di quelle lingue vendute che popolano il circo penalistico del Seicento. Belle marche tipografiche (giglio circondato da putti e flora), testate, finalini e capilettera (alcuni anche istoriati) in xilografia. Testo steso su due colonne. Tracce di tarlo agli angoli delle coperte, ai dorsi, alle sguardie e alle prime ed ultime carte di ogni volume, mai pesanti. Alcuni fascicoli un poco bruniti per la qualità della carta.
