Duplessis and Field agreed in their strict anti-Catholic attitude, which for Field often translated into strident critique of the Church of England. In Duplessis attitude towards authority in the Church, there are clear parallels to the treatment of secular authority in „Vindiciae contra tyrannos", 1579, whose likely co-author he was.
