The period of decolonisation from the 1960's onwards saw the spread of civil wars, chaos and economic crises, a spin-off of which was the disappearance of much large, edible fauna in an African countryside awash with military rifles and empty of effective law-enforcement. This book is based on Mellon's old book but addresses the new situation, where many governments have taken control of their own countryside once more, and see game management and regulated hunting as one means of repairing the damage of the last few decades.
