La réalisation de l armorial dépassera les prévisions du Comte de Foras. Six volumes comprenant plus de 600 familles, déroulant leur histoire généalogique : les fonds d archives publiques, Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Turin, Montpellier, Archives nationales, ont été systématiquement dépouillés. Les archives privées, très riches, n ont pas échappé à ces investigations. À l évidence, l Armorial de Savoie représente l une des principales sources de l histoire de Savoie et de l histoire européenne, étant lui-même le résultat de recherches en profondeur dans l héritage ancestral constitué par les archives. Soucieux de respecter la qualité désirée par les auteurs successifs, Slatkine Reprints a entrepris cette réimpression sur la base des documents originaux, en mettant un soin particulier à la reproduction des blasons en couleurs.
