Presumed first edition thus - Catholic Book Club edition. xiii, 224pp., a frontispiece and 55 other black and white illustrations by the author. Peter Frederick Anson (1889-1975) was an English non-fiction writer on religious matters and architectural and maritime subjects. He spent time as an Anglican Benedictine monk before converting to Roman Catholicism. This book is an account of a horse-drawn caravan journey he made, together with his companion Anthony Rowe, through rural England and Scotland. The object of the pilgrimage was to visit and record the various Catholic churches on that long road to the north. The book is bound in the original purple-white canvas cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front boards with purple titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards and a small stain on the fore edge of the front board. The spine is sunned with some staining and the top of the spine is bumped. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription.…
