Erst während der letzten drei Jahrzehnte fand die persische Diplomatik seitens der Erforscher der spätmittelalterlichen und neueren Geschichte Irans stärkere Zuwendung. Dabei stellte sich heraus, daß vor allem in persischen Privatsammlungen, aber auch in internationalen Archiven wesentlich mehr Dokumente erhalten waren, als ehedem angenommen worden war - wenn auch sehr disparat.
