Many pages unopened. Originally in stiff paper wraps, these are retained but with recent cloth spine with black lettering, some wear to wraps but internally very clean. Size: 32.5 x 25.5.

[1891] 31.5x24cm, copy # 40 of 50 printed on (heavier) Japan paper (of a total edition of 550), 164 (iv)pp. This has been noted as an excellent biography of Millet, and is illustrated with 17 etchings by Frederic Jacques, 8 of which are after some of the best-known Millet works. There are also 4 other in-text illustrations plus another in the middle of the title page.+++CONDITION: this is an ex-library copy though not badly so. The work has been rebound relatively recently (within the last 40 years or so is my guess) in blue cloth, and is very sturdy. The binding has a gilt-printed (though not embossed?) call number at spine bottom, and also has the library name rubber stamped on the page edges. The title page has various library markings including a perforated stamp, and there are various stamps on the rear free endpaper. All that said, there are no stamps on the images, which are clean and bright. Scholar's copy, I would say, though the etchings probably rise above that.

Etat : en trés bon état. charles Hallo Paris 1895 une eau-forte en noir (format : 42,5 x 35 cm) sur papier crème, signature manuscrite de l'auteur au crayon en bas à droite sous la cuvette, et imprimé à gauche en bas dans la gravure le monogramme : F J, sans date (1895), en trés bon état Jacque Frédéric (Paris 1859,1931) Fils du célèbre peintre de Barbizon Charles-Émile Jacque, Frédéric était indispensable pour préserver l'héritage de son père et de l'école de Barbizon. S'acquittant des traces de son père, il est devenu un peintre paysagiste et animalier, graveur et lithographe. Il remporte une médaille d'honneur à l'Exposition universelle de 1889. Deux ans plus tard, il expose à la Société des peintres et des graveurs, où il expose par intermittence jusqu'en 1906 . bel Exemplaire ? RARE ? en bon état (good condition).
