Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. First Edition. Macauley, NY, 1933. First edition. A FINE book in scarce VERY GOOD jacket ( numerous closed tears with a few creases to some; tiny chips to top of spine; no tape, no damp, no stains etc). A bibliomystery. Mystery writer Braxton Hicks is famous for his puzzling thrillers where only in the last moment is the true killer revealed. His latest work, "The Skeleton Talks", is as yet unpublished. When he is found slumped over his typewriter, dead, it is man-about-town Bradley Holmes who suspects murder. A missing manuscript, a jealous author, and a grieving widow all play a part in this fun mystery. Not in Penzler surprisingly!

Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. First Edition, First Printing. Black cloth over boards, title and decorations stamped in green onto upper board and spine, top edge stained green, 12mo (7-3/8 inches tall), pp. 254, (2) ads. Volume with spine ends softened, a couple of small holes to front hinge/joint and a few tiny spots of foxing to fore-edge of last few leaves. Unclipped DJ with light edge wear and rubs. Author's second mystery novel. Displaying very effectively, some of the most vivid and "in your face!" dust jacket artwork of it's time, signed "C.S." at the bottom of the front panel. As George Salter, the famous artist and dust jacket designer said ". .a great number of jackets, too similar in style, will cancel each other out." There is certainly no danger of this unsophisticated - and very singular jacket design - ever being canceled out. Ref. Hubin (1994), p. 257; Heller, p.18.

Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. First edition. Original black cloth lettered in green to the front panel and spine. The book is solid with true corners and strong hinges. The scarce complete jacket is bright and very compelling, with jacket art by C. Schneider. There has been some minor restoration done to the spine ends visible only on the verso. The rear panel of the jacket has a diagonal closed tear with archival tape to the verso. A serial killer / police procedural with an added focus of forensic science. A relatively scarce title, the first from this author, with the extremely scarce bright, price-clipped dust jacket. Near Fine / Very Good.

Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. First edition. Original green cloth, lettered in yellow to the front panel and spine. The boards have minor soiling and a few spots and the spine has some vertical creasing. Previous owner name to the front paste-down. The dust jacket is bright and very pleasing though it is price-clipped. There is some minor restoration on the verso to the spine ends and flap hinges, not visible from the front. A small town is beset with several murders that the local coroners office has ruled accidental. Lawyer and criminologist Lyman K. Wilbur is called in by friends to investigate and an autopsy reveals a different and more disturbing scenario. Then more murder, arson, and bombing. A really good book with interesting characters and, for me at least, it seemed an amazing amount of drinking by everybody during this Prohibition Era setting. Very Good / Near Fine.
