Weltkrieg ein sogenanntes Fliegeras mit den meisten Abschüssen während des Krieges. Berühmt wurde er durch sein Flugzeug, einen rot angemalten Dreidecker. In der Einleitung erzählt sein Bruder Bolko von der Herkunft der Familie und aus ihrer kinder- und Jugendzeit. Anschließend berichtet Manfred von Richthofen in einzelnen Episoden seine Erlebnisse, zuerst als Offizier der Ulanen und dann seine Zeit als Flieger und späteren Kommandeur einer Jagdstaffel, bis er am 21.
