"The Royal Family illustrates almost a century of the fascinating history of the House of Windsor, combining historic photographs with stunning contemporary images. As they celebrate the arrival of Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, this beautifully illustrated edition provides a wonderful tribute to the Royal Family. Charts historic occasions, such as King George V's poignant visit to the battlefields of World War I, the Wallis Simpson scandal that led to the dramatic abdication crisis, the dazzling coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and the moving funeral of Princess Diana, as well as chronicling the close relationship between the monarchy and the British people during the past century. Features momentous occasions in the history of the modern Royals -- such as the stunning wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton and the Jubilee celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's acension to the throne, both events that caught the attention of millions across the globe -- as well as many private family celebrations. From grand state occasions full of pomp and ceremony to scenes of everyday events, the formality of King George V contrasted with the openness of the young Prince William and Prince Harry -- all are aspects of the amazing life of the House of Windsor captured within these pages. Lavishly illustrated with more than 600 superb photographs to provide a charming pictorial record of the many and remarkable achievements of this unique family." -- from the rear outer jacket.
