Ajouter au panierSoft cover. Etat : Near Fine. 1st Edition. Evanston, IL: Clark Publishing Company, 1948. The Fall, 1948 issue of Fate Magazine (Volume 1, Number 3) in Raymond A. Palmer's now-legendary paranormal-reporting non-fiction enterprise, which began with, in its first issue, Kenneth Arnold's cover account of flying crescents which "skipped like saucers across a pond", an event which, for whatever reason, kicked off the modern era of UFO events. After that, Fate introduced countless events which remain, to this day, fodder for paranormal documentaries and investigation. This Fall 1948 issue - the third issue ever - bears one of the handful of truly iconic Fate covers, that being "The Red River Witch" (see scan). 12mo, illustrated staple-bound wraps, 128 pp. A Near Fine copy - and this one is as near fine as near fine gets, with just touch micro-edgewear and an almost indiscernible degree of color fade as you look toward the spine. See scans. Standard toning to the interior newsprint-grade pages, but these are supple, clean and and unchipped. Highest Grade, particularly for a periodical which often shows substantial wear from use. This issue features articles on the memorable Red River Witch, Charles Fort, a Kenneth Arnold reprise on phantom lights in Nevada, The Valley of Never-Come-Back, America's White Sunworshippers (A Thor Heyerdahl piece), The Flying Jigsaw Puzzle, America's Most Famous Ghost Story, The Temple Girls of India, The Black Art, Two Girls, One Body, The Devil, ESP events and of course much, much else, including the standard Departments, always engrossing in themselves. Interior art and photography is largely uncredited. A piece of paranormal history, and an example of a unique branch of Americana, in very highly collectible condition. Please see scans. l50n.…

Ajouter au panierhardcover. Etat : Very Good. Publication: London, Vinton & Company, Ltd., 1910. Formatting: 8vo, pp. [various], 306. Condition Report: Very Good. The original green publisher's cloth is clean and largely free of rubbing or fading. The binding remains completely tight and square. There is faint softening to the spine ends and light bumping to the corners, though the gilt lettering on the spine and upper board remains sharp and unoxidised. Internally, the pages are clean, showing typical uniform age-toning to the text block edges. A newspaper clipping affixed to the preliminary leaves has caused minor localised offsetting, but the contents are otherwise well-preserved. ÂCatalogue Note: This is the Fifth Edition of the third volume in the 'Live Stock Handbooks' series, edited by James Sinclair. It is illustrated with thirty-one black-and-white photographic plates and a large folding pedigree chart. An early newspaper clipping titled âThe Coming of the Coachesâ has been affixed to the preliminary leaves by a previous owner, offering contemporary context on equestrian transport history. While modern print-on-demand reprints are heavily circulated, earlier cloth-bound printings such as this 1910 edition in strong original condition have become uncommon on the open market. An authoritative guide from the turn of the twentieth century, Heavy Horses provides a detailed examination of the principal heavy draught breeds of Britain. Featuring chapters on the Shire, the Suffolk, and the Clydesdale written by leading veterinary and agricultural experts, the manual covers breeding, conformation, and daily management. It serves as a thorough reference for equestrian historians and heavy horse enthusiasts. N/A (illustrateur).…
