Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a captivating examination of the enigmatic phenomenon of Weltschmerz, capturing its essence from the depths of philosophy and literature. The author traces its origins from ancient texts and myths, including the Book of Job and Greek tragedies, which already lamented the sorrows of human existence. Weltschmerz becomes a distinct literary mode in the Romantic era, with poets like Byron and Leopardi expressing their disillusionment with life's imperfections. The 19th century saw a surge of Weltschmerz in response to rapid societal change and political upheaval, as reflected in the works of titans like Heine and Lenau. The book delves into the psychological and philosophical underpinnings of Weltschmerz, exploring its causes and consequences. It examines the role of suffering in human development, the tension between idealism and reality, and the search for meaning in a seemingly indifferent universe. Ultimately, this book illuminates Weltschmerz as a profound and enduring aspect of the human condition, inviting us to reflect on our place in the world and the nature of existence itself. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
