First edition, first printing. Octavo. [xxviii], 211, [1, blank] pp. Lacking errata slip. 7.75" x 5.25" TEACHER & STUDENT OF MEDIEVAL ROMANCE J.R.R. Tolkien's edition of Sir Gawain & the Green Knight rocked the Middle English world. Woefully disappointed with available editions as he taught the medieval epic (Can't you imagine him grumbling?), Tolkien turned to fellow University of Leeds professor Eric Gordon to craft a new rendition. [Hammond B7a]. Spots of wear along joints and corners, spine toned, internally clean, save for the aforementioned penciled annotations. A very good or better example. Publisher's olive cloth, decorated and titled in gilt.…
