Professionals, students, researchers, and clinicians all will welcome this organized presentation of the issues, methodology, and research of present~day hypnosis, drawn from a wealth of widely scattered and frequently unavailable sources. As the editor notes, "It is clear that hypnosis is rapidly losing its mystery, its intractability to psychological theory and research; it is also clear that little of the exciting research being done gets to most psychologists . " Beginning with a description of the background of hypnosis, including its history and an analysis of hypnotic induction, this volume presents integrative summary papers on the research and clinical applications of the technique. Concluding with an over~all view of the field, Perry London writes on ethics in hypnosis, and the editor provides an enlightening summary.
