Full information where further reading and visiting is available. ## ## WEIGHTS AND MEASURES: Weights and measures, being small antique objects with a background of great interest, have become an ideal and popular subject for the collector. The story of how they came to be used and developed is long and fascinating. This book tells that story and provides much information for collectors, pointing out some of the pitfalls awaiting them and indicating the wide variety of remaining items. In addition to their history, the book explains the reasons for the shapes, sizes and materials found. It also considers the legal controls exercised over using weights and measures and how these add to the interest of collecting.Ähe. Graham had a considerable collection of old weights and measures and was a senior officer in a large local authority's weights and measures department. For eight years, he was the editor of The Monthly Review, the Institute of Trading Standards Administration (ITSA) journal, and of two books. ## ## Maurice Stevenson was also a senior inspector of weights and measures and an enthusiastic collector of old weights and measures in 1955 he formed a library for the ITSA which is now housed at the University of Sussex. From 1962 to 1974, he ran a Weights and Measures History Circle and edited its bulletin Libra and in 1979, carried out research at museums on old verification stamps under a grant from the British Academy.## ## Shire Books by Bloomsbury Publishing, a book publishing company based in London, England, and formerly by Shire Publications Ltd. and Osprey Publishing.
