The drawing's topics -anatomy, perspective, archeology, mythology, contemporary chronicles, and zoology -were part of the teaching program of an art academy established by Squarcione in the 1440s, famous in its day, which provided crucial impulses for the training of artists in the modern era.

Bis heute wird das kulturelle Gedächtnis der Europäer davon geprägt. Dieser Band zeigt diese Zusammenhänge aus der Perspektive der Kunstwissenschaften und der Kulturtransferforschung auf. Die Autorinnen und Autoren präsentieren in ihren Beiträgen die regionalen und überregionalen Verflechtungen des gesamteuropäischen Kunstschaffens in den verschiedensten Gattungen im 15. Jahrhundert.
