Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book introduces the medieval German chronicler, Lambert of Hersfeld, and his works on the history of his time, especially of his own monastery. The book contains a new edition of Lambert's biography of his monastery's founder, Saint Lullus, archbishop of Mainz (died 786). Lambert's account of Lullusâs life and career is largely based on earlier sources, notably the works of Willibald, abbot of Heidenheim (d. 787), and Abbot Eigil of Fulda (d. 822), but the author also adds much original material. Lambert's biography is an important source for the ecclesiastical history of Germany in the 8th century. It sheds light on the relations between the papacy and the Frankish kingdom, the missionary activities of the Anglo-Saxon church, and the development of monasticism in Germany.
