Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book opens a window into the complicated post-Revolutionary War period in the United States by collecting a series of laws concerning loans and currency passed by the newly formed U.S. Congress from 1790 to 1800. It provides an in-depth look at the financial challenges faced by the ne…w nation during its formative years and the ways in which those challenges were addressed. Of particular interest is the role of the Bank of the United States as a partner with the federal government in meeting financial obligations and stimulating the economy. This collection of primary source material will be of great value to scholars and students of finance, economics, and American history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Etat : Very good. - 60 words typed on an approximately 8 inch square sheet of U.S. House of Representatives letterhead with "John Q. Tilson / 3d Dist. Connecticut" printed at top left. Signed "John Q. Tilson". A pencil check mark in the left margin, slightly affecting 1 letter of the text, probably indicates that the letter has…been answered. Folded 3 times for mailing. Very good. The Bonus Army was a group of 43,000 demonstrators consisting of 17,000 U.S. World War I veterans, their families and affiliated groups who gathered in Washington, DC in mid 1932 to demand early cash redemption of their service certificates. Many of these veterans had been out of work since the beginning of the Depression and had been awarded bonuses in the form of certificates which could not be redeemed until 1948. The principle demand of the demonstrators, who called themselves the "Bonus Expeditionary Force" was immediate cash payment of their certificates. Three and a half months after the date of this letter Attorney General William D. Mitchell ordered the veterans to be removed from government property. There were clashes with police, shots were fired and two veterans were wounded and later died. President Herbert Hoover then ordered the army to clear the marchers' campsite, an order carried out by Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur with a contingent of infantry and cavalry and six tanks.John Q. Tilson [1866-1958] was an American politician who served as Republican representative from Connecticut for almost 22 years and was House Majority leader for 6 years. Tilson here writes that he is happy to receive Parker Allen's letter, especially as he notes that Allen is himself a veteran. "It is my purpose to continue in my opposition to this measure and to favor the reduction of expenditures wherever practicable." Parker Allen was the president of The Meriden Gravure Company.

The hearing examined NASA's plan, ''NASA's Implementation Plan for Return-to-Flight and Beyond,'' which is NASA's response to the CAIB report. Issues for the hearing include whether the plan fully complies with the CAIB recomm…endations; the cost and schedule associated with implementing the plan; whether the task group (led by the two former astronauts Thomas Stafford and Richard Covey) that NASA has appointed to oversee return-to-flight provides the best mechanism to assess NASA's implementation; and the criteria used to determine when the Shuttle is ready to return to flight. The hearing also reviewed the impact a significant delay in return-to-flight might have on the International Space Station, the Hubble Space Telescope, and the proposed Orbital Space Plane. NASA appointed a Return-to-Flight Task Group, headed by former astronauts Richard Covey and Tom Stafford, to independently assess implementation of the CAIB recommendations. The Stafford-Covey Task Group was subject to the Federal Advisory Committee Act. The Task Group would publicly report its results. The Task Group was to report on NASA's progress on meeting the intent of the CAIB. NASA plans to review the more than 3,000 waivers that exist to the Shuttle's technical specificationsâ"a move that goes even beyond the CAIB's recommendations, but a step that was taken after the Challenger explosion. Such waivers allowed the Shuttle to continue flying, for example, without NASA fixing the foam problem even though the design requirements stipulate that no foam debris be allowed to strike the Shuttle's delicate thermal insulation. The CAIB reported that more than a third of the Shuttle's waivers had not been reviewed in over 10 years.

15th Assembly, 1st Session. Broadside [21 cm x 14 cm] printed on one side in black ink. Near fine. A brief report for the Illinois Legislature on those seeking expenses due to the 'Hancock difficulties' of 1846. It states that due to the "advanced stage" of the legislative session, there is not ample time to investigate the clai…ms of money owed and destroyed property, and for the time the "agents for said claimants have leave to withdraw their accounts at pleasure." The briefness of this item, as well as, its matter-of-fact style, masks the horrors of the events that it eludes to: the Martyrdom and the forced exile of the Mormons from Nauvoo. Flake/Draper 4189. We locate four institutional holdings. Rare.
