Hardcover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. Original printed paper covered boards with yellow cloth spine 13 x 19cm. (8) + 64pp with numerous b/w maps, drawings and photo illustrations in text. First published in 1932, this is indicated as the 3rd reprint to the copyright page (1935, 1940, 1944) and dated 1944 to the title. Boards very good, spine dusted. Interiors mostly near fine with light creasing, except for reddish staining to several inner margins, possibly bleeding from the cloth. The binding is holding but sections are starting to come loose. Rare - 6 locations found for all printings including 2 on Copac (BL Oxford NLS and NY Public Library (all 1932), National Library of Australia (1940), Stellenbosch University (1944)). This appears to be the last reprint, as in 1945 a book of the same title appeared, authored by R.H. Ardill (Mauritius: J. H. Bowkett, 55pp), which ran through several editions. At the time of first publication, Ingrams was Assistant Colonial Secretary on Mauritius, in between his postings to Zanzibar and Aden. He also wrote "A School History of Mauritius" (London: Macmillan, 1931). Targeted at higher primary and middle secondary classes, the Schools Committee of Mauritius adopted this as an official textbook. Rather than being a general work, it is very much focused on the island, its districts and dependencies, and the photos by Roger Halbwachs show local scenes.

Hardcover. Etat : Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. 1931. An unusual copy, complete and intact throughout with all contents, plates, and maps present, but with an erroneous 16-page additional section - a duplication of pp. 433-448, immediately following that same section of text and part of the original binding (not inserted), before continuing the content as normal. Some mild browning and foxing around the outer page edges and lightly thumbed corners, commensurate with age and use, but no major creases or wear, folding map in particular seems barely used with no significant marks or wear. Covers firm and secure, faded along the spine from sunlight exposure but otherwise bearing just a few minor spots and marks, gilt titles remain bright.
