Softcover. Etat : As New. "In the course of almost thirty years, the photographer Ivan Pinkava (b. 1961) has created his own distinctive visual language, which can reasonably identified with his own way of thinking about the world. The figures and still lifes in his works intertwine. . They are a modern mirroring of deeper thought processes following on from the language of traditional Western culture. Pinkava intentionally enters well-known iconographic situations in order to change them, sometimes inconspicuously, sometimes radically, jumbling, renaming, emptying, veiling, or making them stand out in another light. He blurs conventional meanings concealed behind the names of classical and biblical figures. In historical settings he finds something common to the present and future and true to both - namely, prefigurations of human uncertainty stemming from our own physical transitoriness. The author of the introductory essay, Petr Vanous, is an art historian, critic, and curator."--P. 4 of cover.…

Light toning to the lower extremities, otherwise a fine, unmarked copy. Unclipped pictorial jacket has superficial wear to the edges and rear panel. "Ivan Pinkava makes use of the human body and face as a mirror of cultural significances, without at the same time detracting from the authentic identity of a specific person. Thanks to its emphasised, purely personal physiognomy, his portrait works present references to icons of the European pictorial tradition. Figures in carefully arranged scenes of gesture, expression and attributes multiply their personal identity in favour of wider significances constructed on perceptible links to myths, biblical stories, introspection of inner life, but also towards a cultural memory drawn from the history of visual art and literature." Size: Quarto. B/w Photos (illustrateur). Book.…

[80-86217-72-8] 2004. (4to) Fine in fine dust jacket. 203pp. Photographs. "The work of Ivan Pinkava is not easy. In spite of and because of this, it is well worth regarding the aid offered by titles as an initial hint, as drawing our attention to the fact that Pinkava is a photographer whose inspiration comes from belles-lettres, theology and art history, a photographer who is proudly unmodern" - from the note by Martin C. Putna. Preface by Martin C. Putna. (Photography, Nude Photography, Photography, Portrait Photography).…
