New York: Harper:, 2026. First edition, Hardcover, New in dust jacket, 295 pp. Cover artwork by: Jack Smyth "Vera Van Valkenburgh hasn't been home in one hundred and eighty-eight years. But now Vera, forever twenty-six and able to heal from any wound, has returned to the Catskills. Whatever made her family immortal happened here, and if she can uncover it, maybe she can reverse it. After nearly two centuries - an endless sequence of unnoticed, meaningless lives and a soul-shaking incident in the desert - she longs to be released. Posing as a newly arrived forest ranger, she quickly blends into the upstate community and learns of something curious and disturbing. A mysterious, well-funded company is snapping up local property, no matter how high the asking price. But when her brother, a fellow immortal shows up, accompanied by a woman whose face is incredibly familiar to Vera, the purpose for her return gets clouded and Vera is in a race against time to find out what has caused her condition before someone else does." First edition, Hardcover, New in dust jacket. Jack Smyth (illustrateur).…

Softcover. Etat : Fair. Five Days in Hell by Jack Smyth, published by William Kimber and Co. Limited, first published 1956. This is the Kimber Pocket Edition paperback, priced at 2/6 net as printed on the cover. The back cover blurb sets out the author's account of the Battle of Arnhem and the First Airborne Division, describing his own experiences dropped with the division, his wounding, capture and later release in April 1945. The cover illustration shows soldiers with a mortar and bridge scene, with the price tab in the corner. The spine shows the title and author in orange lettering on a dark ground. Wear is considerable. The spine is heavily worn with loss of covering material at the head and tail, and the corners of the covers are rubbed and creased. The covers show scuffing, surface loss and tide-line type marks, particularly to the front. Page edges are tanned. Internal photographic plates are present, showing paratroopers and gliders over Arnhem.…

Hardcover. Etat : new. Hardcover. This collection of essays highlights the many problems and challenges facing human rights law today. Bringing together academics, practitioners and NGOs, it examines some of the contemporary challenges facing human rights law and practice in England, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, France and America. It is clear that we live in a time where human rights are in crisis. A decade of austerity measures at the domestic, regional and international levels evidently has had a detrimental effect on the protection of human rights. Cuts to social spending have resulted a failing social welfare system, a health service buckling under pressure, unprecedented rises in homelessness and child poverty, and the emergence of the 'working poor' and zero hours contracts. Austerity, famine, civil war, oppressive governmental regimes and climate change have seen vast migrations, resulting in a resurrection of far right-wing ideology. In the UK, this is seen in what can only be described as propaganda and scaremongering during the campaign for Brexit and in subsequent political elections evidenced by the increase in racially motivated hate crime within the UK. The landscape of human rights is such that it has resulted in some beginning to question, are human rights rights at all? This collection of essays highlights the many problems and challenges facing human rights law today.
