Since this was used in a school setting, there is a black stamp and writing in blue ballpoint inside the front illustrated cover. Wear to illustrated covers with smudging and creasing. Multiple creases along the length and at the bottom of the spine. Besides the creasing on the back cover, there is a deep circle imprint which causes a bit of a lean. Wear to pages on all sides with foxing and creasing to some bottom corners. Inside both covers have markings where tape was removed. I don't see any highlighting or underlining in the text. When "Call It Sleep", a critically celebrated novel by Henry Roth, was first published in 1934, its public sales were very low, and thus the book was dropped from publication and languished, almost forgotten. In 1964 Roth again decided to try the market for this book. Avon Books, one of the top paperback publishers of the time, took the book on and published the reprint: sales were much better for the reprint. It happened that Avon was experimenting at that time with rounded fore-edge corners, and this copy, a Third Printing from November, 1964 has the rounded corners. (This experiment in cover style was pretty quickly dropped, so later printings do not have the rounded corners.) BINDING - The book seems to have been read, but the binding remains tight. INTERIOR - The inscription on the inside of the front cover is written in red ink ("Mom, SI says this is the most neglected novel in a long time, so I thought it might be interesting ") ; the paper throughout is considerably toned - an unfortunate production effect - else the interior is clean and free of marking.
