[Drop title: rebuilding of the North Jetty and construction of the proposed South Jetty at the entrance of Coos Bay, Oregon, together with an inner channel to conform to the depth secured at the harbor entrance.] Portland, Oregon; Glass & Prudhomme Co., [1921]. 11"x 8", 37 (unnumbered) pp Large folding map. Stiff wrappers. VG condition. Provenance: Library of Congress, with their rubber stamp on rear cover and 10mm perforated "LC" stamp on title page. There is also a carbon copy of the LC card catalog card laid in [++] The map is folding and quite arge (37.5"x 23.5") and printed in very stark black and white. The subject sounds not terribly interesting (government-owned timberlands in the Coos Bay area) but the presentation and the visual quality of the map is outstandingit has the feel of Outsiderism, and it must be the largesst black-and-white checkerboarded map I've seen. Plus there is a very large block of black on the map which is the largest of its type that I can remember. Seriouslythis is an interesting and stunning black-and-white Found-Outsider-Art artwork, or at least that is how I see it. It has left Coos Bay behind and entered its own special but little sphere.
