Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents an extensive overview of the coinage of the Low Countries before the French Revolutionary Wars. Beginning with a brief overview of the region during the Roman era, this publication traces the development of coinage from the time of Charlemagne through the 18th century. The author, an expert numismatist, uses a comprehensive approach to this subject, examining not only coins produced by the major centers of power but also the work of local seignorial and ecclesiastical mints. Through a meticulous analysis of these coinsâ types, dimensions, and metallic composition, the book provides insights not only into the economic and political climate of the period but also allows us to draw conclusions about artistic and technological advancements in the production of coinage and medallions. Moreover, the author illuminates the difficulties of attributing coins due to the complex web of political alliances, feudal contracts, and the division of territories that characterized the medieval and early modern Netherlands. As a result, this book is not only an exceptional resource for currency collectors, historians, and economists but also for anyone fascinated by the intricate story of European history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
