Very slight chips off top/bottom of spine. A delightful child's story by the iconic Irish author.

From a letter to Joyce's grandson wherein he tells the tale of an agreement with the devil for a bridge over the Loire and how the local mayor gets the best of the bargain. Fine in near fine, unclipped dj, small green initials inked next to price, tiny scuff to spine titling, no other markings.

Joyce crafted this short story in the form of a letter to his grandson written in 1936 and reprinted in book form by Grosset & Dunlap with illustrations by Richard Erdoes. A fanciful tale of building a bridge over the Loire in the medieval town of Beaugency. The bridge still exists. A very good copy in yellow boards with black spine lettering, square and tight, with a few pen marks on the front free endpaper, otherwise fine. The book is housed in a very good dustwrapper with slight loss of material at the spine ends and a few inconsequential chips, with the original price ($3.50) on the inside front flap.
