It was not until June 1947 that the island --- notorious as an early convict settlement and later noted for the resettlement from Pitcairn Island of the descendents of the Bouny mutineers --- produced its own stamp issue. Tasmanian, NSW and finally Australian Commonwealth stamps were previously used. Since then stamps issued in the island have attracted collectors world-wide. Subjects covered have been wide ranging, from island scenery, architecture, birds, botanical subjects, wild life, historical associations, ships, transport, aircraft and significant occasions/events/organisations. 88 pages, short history of island and its postal history with each stamp issue then chronologically described and illustrated, with various denominations in full colour.
