Rough cut page ends are yellowed and soiled. Heavy soiling and foxing on inside front and back covers. Hinges are cracked but still firmly attached. Yellowing and some foxing present one pages. Text is still clean and very readable. All of our books are individually inspected and described. Never ex-lib unless explicitly described as such.

Clearly following the lead of Johnson, Ellis, and Campbell in their anthologies of English poetry,…this collection begins with Cotton Mather, Michael Wigglesworth, and their colleagues, and continues along roughly chronological lines to include the very early poetry of Longfellow and Whittier. The sole entry under Francis Scott Key is The Star Spangled Banner, Poe's Tamerlane receives a very early mention on page 405 in the list of works by American Poets, which has been called the first bibliography of American poetry. First edition. Uncommon, especially in contemporary red morocco. This set will require extra postage, with the exact amount depending upon the destination.
