Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents a debate on the experiments and conclusions of Francis Bashforth regarding the resistance of air to projectiles. Bashforth, a professor at the Advanced Class of the Royal Artillery, spent years conducting detailed experiments using a chronograph he invented. His results were published in 1870, providing valuable insights into the behavior of projectiles in the air. In 1881, the Krupp Company issued similar tables without acknowledging Bashforth's work and claiming credit for themselves. His protest against their actions was met with a weak defense from Krupp, who claimed to have used different methods despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. The author's analysis of the dispute highlights the importance of acknowledging prior research and the significance of Bashforth's contributions to the field of ballistics. Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book provides a detailed history of the housing development initiative for workers by the renowned industrialist Friedrich Krupp, founder of the Krupp steel empire. It begins by tracing the evolution of worker housing from simple barracks to single-family units. The author delves into the rationale behind the various housing models adopted by Krupp, including Etagenhäuser (multi-story apartment buildings), Reihenhäuser (row houses), and Einfamilienhäuser (single-family homes). The book draws attention to the social and hygienic considerations that informed Krupp's housing designs, such as the provision of adequate sunlight, ventilation, and sanitation. Additionally, it examines the expansion of the housing program and the challenges faced by Krupp in balancing the need for affordable housing with the desire for aesthetically pleasing and comfortable living spaces. Through this historical account, the book offers valuable insights into the development of worker housing in the context of industrialization and urbanization, and highlights the legacy of Krupp's pioneering efforts in this field.
