Gebraucht - Sehr gut Ungelesenes, vollständiges Exemplar; in sehr gutem Zustand, leichte Lagerspuren, als Mängelexemplar gekennzeichnet -Castaway Modernismilluminates an important moment in the history of the Kunstmuseum Basel's collection. In 1937 the Nazi cultural policy denounced thousands of works as 'degenerate' and forcibly removed them from German museums. The Third Reich's Ministry of Propaganda correctly assumed that a portion of such works would find buyers abroad, in this way certain artworks deemed 'internationally exploitable' reached the art market through various channels. In 1939 Georg Schmidt (1896-1965), the museum's director at the time, managed to acquire the paintingFate of the Animalsby Franz Marc and 20 other avant-garde masterpieces. In thiscatalogue, renowned experts trace the events based on the seizures from German museums and explain the historical context-presenting the protagonists from the institutions involved and the art market, as well as revealing how the Nazi regime's act of cultural violence that resulted in an artificial fragmentation of modernism into art that was 'exploitable' on the one hand, and art that has been destroyed or forgotten on the other. The various contributions bring the specifically Swiss aspects of this story into focus, such as on the auction of the Galerie Fischer in Lucerne, on Georg Schmidt's approach, and on the classification of the acquisitions in the context of Basel's collection history. The KUNSTMUSEUM BASEL houses the oldest public art collection in the world. 288 pp. Englisch.…

Etat : Very Good. Hardcover, gray cloth with yellow band, 248 pages. This beautiful book focuses on the distinctive and expressive power of Jackson Pollock's figurative paintings, drawings, and prints; a rarely studied aspect of his artistic career. Jackson Pollock?s name has become synonymous with the abstract drip paintings that he famously created on the floor of his studio. Before these paintings, from the 1930s to the late 1940s, Pollock created figurative works, studying at one time under the painter Thomas Hart Benton and with the Mexican muralists Diego Rivera, Jose? Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Pollock took up figuration again after his famous drip paintings. This book starts with the early decades and also treats Pollock?s re-adoption of the figuration after his renowned abstract paintings. The Figurative Pollock features 100 paintings and works on paper. From rolling landscapes to experiments in non-Western totemic painting to sketches and drawings fueled by Jungian analysis, the enormous range of Pollock?s early and late work is presented here. Brimming with confidence and a sense of freedom, distinct yet so easily related to Pollock?s most famous oeuvre, these works contribute to an understanding of how the artist found his voice.
