The first edition of this work, complete in two volumes. In signed full calf bindings by Riviere. These two volumes are extra-illustrated, with vignette illustrations throughout, and twenty-nine plates to volume I, and twenty-two to volume II. Therefore there are an additional twenty-six plates to volume I, and an additional twenty plates to volume II. Collated, complete. With the bookplate of C I Fletcher to the front pastedowns. A fascinating biography on the life of John Leech, the noted Victorian caricaturist. Leech is best known for his work for 'Punch', and for illustrating the Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'. In full calf signed bindings by Riviere, with gilt detailing to back strips. Light rubbing to back strip heads and tails, otherwise externally excellent. Volume I joint heads and tails starting, with boards firmly held. Rear joint tail of volume II starting with board firmly held. Bookplates to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound.
