Written by noted British art historian and British Museum curator Ormonde Maddock Dalton under the pseudonym h…e used for his personal creative writing; for his professional writing he used O. M. Dalton. London/New York: John Lane, The Bodely Head, 1916. Original publisher's half-vellum over swirled marbled paper boards, gilt spine lettering, top edge gilt, rough cut page edges, pp. 178 plus ads (4pp.), size about 7.5x5 inches. This work explores the pursuit of unattainable ideals. Condition is Very Good. Binding remains secure, corners sharp, vellum is toned, some chips to marbled paper edges. Endpapers has mild age toning, pages even lighter; no marks or writing, no loose pages or tears. A nice copy! Ormonde Maddock Dalton (1866-1945), was a prominent British museum curator, archaeologist, and art historian who served as the Keeper of the British and Medieval Antiquities Department at the British Museum from 1921 to 1928. He was a leading authority on early Christian, Byzantine, and medieval art. "Sirenica" is considered to be Dalton's most philosophically profound work. [A1].
