The magazine had 14 issues and was published from January 1968 to July 1971. From January, 1968, through July, 1971, Ginzburg published Avant Garde. While it could not be termed obscene, it was filled with creative imagery often caustically critical of American society and government, sexual themes, and (for the time) crude language.Avant Garde had a modest circulation but was extremely popular in certain circles, including New York's advertising and editorial art directors. Herbert F. Lubalin (1918-1981), a post-modern design guru, was Ginzburg's collaborator on his four best-known magazines, including Avant Garde, which gave birth to a well-known typeface of the same name. It was originally intended primarily for use in logos: the first version consisted solely of 26 capital letters. It was inspired by Ginzburg and his wife, designed by Lubalin, and realized by Lubalin's assistants and Tom Carnese, one of Lubalin's partners. It is characterized by geometrically perfect round strokes; short, straight lines; and an extremely large number of kerned ligatures. The International Typeface Corporation (ITC) (of which Lubalin was a founder) released a full version in 1970."--wikipedia ; G. Book.…

Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The Golem is a collection that speaks with the voice of a feminist writer who stands on the shoulders of her ancestors, Jewish Hungarian immigrants; 'I am not one, but two generations erased.' Spanning an acrobatic cast of characters, the writing is colloquial and also celebrates inventive structures. The book unfolds in three movements: Past Perfect, Present Tense, and Future Fictitious, charting a course through love, grief, and death to find the courage in being mortal. These poems travel across the United States to visit New York City kitchens, Silicon Valley cubicles, Louisiana bayous, with humorous dips into pop culture, including American TV's Judge Judy, Starbucks, and online dating. Whether wondering about Spinoza, or histories of violence, the poems are written with a fine eye to detail. The last section is a stunning sonnet sequence that totally reinvents the golem myth borrowed from Jewish folklore and the mystical tradition. 116 pp. Englisch.…

Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - 'Pulp to Paper is an engaging, disturbing and sometimes humorous novel exposing a calcified network of corruption between a company (Rand-Atlantic) and the government (EPA) in a small Southern town where 'the stink [is] the smell of money.' Weiss's talent for detail is extraordinary as she takes us into the homes, sandwich shops and hydrogen-sulfide infested creeks of East Hentsbury with its unforgettable cast of characters.'Leslie Kirk Campbell, The Man with Eight Pairs of Legs'This is a time of great tribulation, and I believe Lenore Weiss has a voice that can help us through it. Read this book.'Luis Alberto Urrea, Good Night, IreneIn the close-knit community of Hentsbury, racism and the local paper mill's oppressive control over the town collide in a gripping tale set in the 1990s in southern Arkansas along the fictional Mud River.Rae-Ann, owner of a convenience store and unofficial mayor of Hentsbury, finds her life intertwined with Vernon's when a budding romance between them hits an unexpected roadblock. Their love story takes an abrupt turn when chemicals from the mill's runoff claim the life of Rincon, a young black boy battling acute asthma. In a harrowing failed rescue attempt, Vernon, the plant's Environmental Officer, relives the trauma of holding the dying boy in his arms.As the community grapples with this tragedy, Vernon stumbles upon a back-door deal between state and local officials who ask him to suppress critical information about the mill's dangerous hydrogen sulfide emissions. With the rising tensions, Rae-Ann begins to question whether Vernon will stand by his principles. In the end, it's Rincon's determined grandmother, along with Rae-Ann and her older sister, who rallies the town to take action. Their efforts lead to the arrival of an EPA investigatory team, but not without consequences. When the dust settles, Vernon loses his job, but he and Rae-Ann embark on a new chapter in life together.…
