Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of the Cahiers de Dolà ances, or grievance books, submitted by the Third Estate in the electoral district of Rennes, Brittany, in the lead-up to the 1789 Estates General, the legislative assembly that precipitated the French Revolution. As such, it provides valuable insights into the social, political, and economic conditions that prevailed in rural France at that time. The grievances detailed in these documents reveal a peasantry burdened with feudal dues, unfair taxation, and the corvà e labor system, which forced them to work on public roads without compensation. Many of their complaints also spoke to political concerns, especially the lack of representation for commoners in provincial and national assemblies dominated by nobles and the clergy. By shedding light on these issues, this book offers a fascinating glimpse into the roots and nature of popular discontent in pre-revolutionary France. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents the 1789 electoral records of the citizens of Saint-Malo. Collected during a moment of great political upheaval, these records provide a glimpse into the concerns and aspirations of the French people on the eve of the Revolution. This document is particularly valuable as it reflects the concerns of the people of Saint-Malo, a major port city with a long history of maritime trade and exploration. Through these records, we can understand the hopes and fears of the citizens of Saint-Malo as they prepared to elect their representatives to the newly established National Assembly. The records offer insights into the social, economic, and political issues that shaped the thinking of the people of Saint-Malo during this transformative period in French history. Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is an assemblage of the grievances and proposals set forth by the three orders of the Sà nà chaussà e of Rennes in 1789 on the eve of the French Revolution. These documents provide insights into the specific economic and social issues affecting the region, as well as the broader political and legal context in which they arose. The Sà nà chaussà e of Rennes, a vast administrative division of the province of Brittany, was not a uniform region, either geographically or economically. Its territory included the rich agricultural lands of the Rennes basin, the less fertile regions of the north and south, and the coastal zone, which was more prosperous due to its access to trade and the sea. The condition of the peasantry varied greatly depending on the quality of the land they worked. Some were prosperous, while many others lived in poverty. The book also explores the economic activities of the region. The most important industry was the production of linen and hemp cloth, which was carried out both in rural areas and in towns. Other industries included the manufacture of wool and cotton fabrics, leather goods, and hats. The book also examines the impact of the economic crisis of the late 18th century on the region's economy. This book is a valuable resource for understanding the social and economic conditions of Brittany on the eve of the Revolution. It provides a glimpse into the hopes, fears, and grievances of the people who lived there, and sheds light on the complex factors that led to the outbreak of revolution in France.

This book explores the social and economic transformations of Guingamp, a town in Brittany, France, on the eve of the French Revolution. The author draws upon an assembly of local archives and records of the Third Estate to provide an extensive study of the social and economic conditions of Guingamp. The author illuminates how the social and political hierarchy of the old regime gave way to new ideals of the Revolution, including liberty, fraternity, and equality. This book will interest scholars of 18th-century French history and anyone curious about the origins of the French Revolution. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
