Jan Fabre's latest series of works includes brilliant coral sculptures, as if ready to be offered to a temple, and blood drawings. The practice of comprehension of the mystery makes him dialogue with the artists and alchemists of the Renaissance, who tried to explain both the enigma of human formation and the origin of art on the basis of laboratory research, as well as with those religious writers who tried to understand the essence of the sacrament of marriage, one of the five (or seven) great sacraments, through the detailed study of sanctified texts. Hardcover. Etat : As New. 1st Edition. Hardcover, 33 x 24 cm, 191 pp., English, 1st Edition, Illustrations, book condition: As New "Allegory of Caritas (An Act of Love)" is a 2022 series and solo exhibition by Belgian artist Jan Fabre. The collection explores human vulnerability and universal solidarity through more than thirty red coral sculptures and unpublished drawings made with the artist's own blood. Key Themes and Materials Red Coral: Chosen for its resemblance to the mesh of human blood vessels, the Mediterranean coral serves as a bridge between natural matter and artistic vision. Fabre references the myth of Medusa from Ovid's Metamorphoses, where coral was said to be born from blood. Blood Drawings: Fabre used his own blood as a "vital fluid" to create drawings depicting the gestation of his son, Django, based on ultrasound scans. Caritas: The title refers to the Latin caritas (meaning beloved or dear), a concept of selfless love and solidarity that Fabre believes is the "engine that generates and preserves life."
