A renowned scholar in the field of historical geography and an authority on historical documents and maps particularly in relation to New World exploration and settlement, Louis De Vorsey earned his Ph.D. from the University of London and briefly taught at East Carolina University from 1963-1965 and at the University of North Carolina from 1965-1967 before joining the geography faculty at the University of Georgia in 1967 and retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1988. Acquired from the estate of Dr. Jesse Oscar McKee (1941-2023) who earned his Ph.D. from Michigan State University and served on the faculty of the Geography Department at the University of Southern Mississippi from 1964-2003.
